Dolly, the van

Dolly as my safe haven, my home on wheels

Dolly is a Peugeot Boxer from 2011. I've been dreaming about her for about 20 years and the real life experience is even beyond my imagination. We don't live here fulltime but travel with her every possible weekend and holiday.

It took us almost a year of working every evening and weekend to transform Dolly into a home on wheels. I had been planning this build for several years, so I already knew how I wanted her to look, all the desired specifics, and my husband knew a lot about the structural and technical side. Since I really wanted to create a cozy space that resembled a little home, I aimed for a large fridge, an oven, our own battery system with solar panels, a heater (I'm always cold), a 20-liter water tank, shower, toilet, and plenty of space to sit and sleep. It was quite challenging in such a small area, but oh so worth it once it was finished! I still get this exciting feeling every time I enter the van.

The build

It took us nearly a year to complete the van. We did a lot of the work ourselves, but we hired experts (special thanks to Thomas from "Gewoon onderweg") to handle specific tasks, such as adding windows, setting up the gas, and constructing the framework for the kitchen and upper cabinets. It was a ton of work, and to be honest, I don't think I'd want to build another van in the future. If I have the chance, I would definitely ask Thomas to handle the entire project next time ;) But I'm so proud of how Dolly turned out!
